The Thurber Carnival

The Melon Patch Theater will be presenting The Thurber Carnival a revue by James Thurber adapted by the author from his stories and cartoons, nearly all of which appeared in the New Yorker. His unique ability to convey the vagaries of life in a funny, witty and often satirical way earned him accolades as the finest humorist of the twentieth century. The pieces in the play include selections from
such beloved classics as My World and Welcome To It, The Owl in the Attic, and Men, Woman, and Dogs. Thurber’s take on life, society
and human nature is timeless and will delight the audience as they see bits and pieces of themselves in his brilliant sketches.

Patchwork Productions

The 2009 Patchwork Summer Camp Workshop will be held from July 13th through July 24th. A performance will be given on July 23rd at 6PM to which the public is invited!
To register your child please call the theater at 787-3013.

The Melon Patch Players are also proud to present the 2009 Patchwork Production's Fall program, Ebenezer. Registration for the fall classes will be held on Thursday Aug. 13th from 4-6 PM and Aug. 22nd from 10AM-12PM. Classes will begin on Thursday Aug. 27th with the K-5 group meeting from 4:15-5:15 and the Senior Group meeting from 5:30-6:45. Performances of the show will be in November and will include a Benefit Performance for Children Helping Children of Hospice on November 15th at 2PM. There is a non-refundable registration fee of $15 and tuition is $150.00 for the semester. Please call the theater at 352-787-3013 for any additional information.

The Sara Awards

The Melon Patch Theater will celebrate the annual Sara Awards on Saturday evening with a reception beginning at 6:00 p.m. followed by the awards program beginning at 7:00 p.m.
The annual Sara Awards are given to honor the past year's entertainers and volunteer staff. The awards are named in honor/memory of Sara Barkus who gave so much of her time to the development of the Melon Patch Theater for many years. The Sara Awards are similar to the Tony Awards that are given to performers on Broadway.
Entertainment will feature specific highlights of the past season's shows or feature songs from some of the forthcoming shows in the 2009-2010 season.
The event is free to the community and public. Reservations do need to be made, however by calling the box office at 787-3013. For this special event, casual dressy or evening cocktail attire is suggested.

Melon Patch Receives Target Grant

Melon Patch Players, Inc., Receives Grant from Target

Melon Patch Players, Inc., today announced a partnership with Target® in recognition of its efforts in encouraging and promoting performing arts for residents of all ages.

“We’re so proud to be a part of Target’s work within our community, and we’re thrilled to have this grant so we can continue the great work of The Melon Patch,” said Sue Thomas, president of the board of directors for Melon Patch Players, Inc. Melon Patch Players, Inc., is in its 57th season and has been in the same building since 1955.
